XLGirls hasn't shown many legends of plumperdom in recent years. This pictorial looks back at the great Roberta Smallwood, one of the women who blazed the trail for full-figured adult models at a time when the niche was so small, it was extremely difficult to find magazines and films with her kind of body, unlike today. Roberta was living in Phoenix, Arizona when she sent her Polaroid shots to John Fox, TSG's president. The year was 1989. Mr. Fox quickly arranged to send photographer James Hamilton to Arizona. Roberta later went to Los Angeles and then Palm Springs for more shoots. Those video titles were Hardcore Plumpers, The Best of Voluptuous Volume 1 and The Plumpers of Sundance Spa. Roberta only modeled for a short time before completely retiring. Life is different now because of technology. New models use Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and two hundred other social sites to stay in the public eye. Not so for Roberta who became a legend in a time before science revolutionized communication.
