I_m Katherine Curtis you_re watching Naked News. Well as predicted the weather battered states of New York and New Jersey were hit with yet ANOTHER storm. This is the last thing they needed after the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy only a few days ago. And like its predecessor this latest nor_easter has done its fair share of damage. 60-mile-per-hour winds have brought down trees and power lines blacking out tens of thousands of more homes across the region. In addition to a number of evacuations hundreds of flights in and out of both states were cancelled leaving thousands of travelers stranded. To date nearly 100 thousand people have registered for emergency housing assistance n a number that_s expected to increase in the coming days. An analysis of the US presidential vote tally has shed some light on exactly how Barack Obama handily won Tuesday_s election. Though his margin of victory in the popular vote was slim Obama scored major victories in some key demographics. With more here_s Eila Adams. Kat president Obama proved to be the candidate of choice for women latinos African americans and younger voters. Obama garnered 55-percent of the female vote compared to just 44-percent for Mitt Romney. His support among the Latino and African American community was even more impressive where he scored 71-percent and 93-percent of votes respectively. And once again his support among younger voters helped put him over the top. 60-percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 29 submitted ballots for Obama Kat.Sounds to me like the Republican party has some major work to do. So where did most of ROMNEY_S support come from?Well he DID get most of the white vote Kat the problem is that_s a shrinking demographic and not enough of them showed up at the polls. 72% versus 74% in 2008. Yeah that IS a problem it_s surprising because just over a week ago it seemed like the Romney campaign had all the momentum. What happened?Well that depends on who you ask. But in terms of demographics as I said Romney simply wasn_t able to compete in several key groups: specifically African-Americans Hispanics and the largest of all women. In fact Romney trailed Obama with SINGLE women by a staggering 38 percent a statistic due in no small part to the Republican party_s heightened focus on issues like contraception and abortion. Other complaints from conservative strategists include Paul Ryan_s inability to vitalize the ticket and Hurricane Sandy_s domination of the news cycle in the final days of the campaign.
