Some experts are predicting that it will be the biggest, most devastating storm to EVER hit the Eastern seaboard. Eila Adams has her eyes on the sky and joins us now with the latest. How bad does it look out there Eila?Not great, Kat.Several states, including New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut have declared emergencies, shutting down schools and transportation services. Meteorologists are warning that Hurricane Sandy could develop into a super storm when it makes landfall. International flights into Boston, Washington DC, New York, Philadelphia, and other cities have all been canceled. The storm has already left 60 dead after tearing its way through the Caribbean. And rather than weakening as it approaches land, it appears that Sandy is getting even stronger, with sustained winds hitting 85 miles per hour. Making things potentially WORSE Kat, the Frankenstorm is expected to collide with a winter storm AND a cold front.Now I understand the storm_s economic impact could be pretty significant as well Eila.BIG TIME Kat. The New York Stock Exchange is completely shut down. And for those of you into other forms of legal gambling, so are the casinos in Atlantic City.That_s a LOT of money that isn_t changing hands. I understand that even the presidential election campaigns are being affected. That_s right. Both candidates have canceled stops in crucial swing states due to Sandy. Mitt Romney has pulled out of an engagement in Virginia, while President Obama will miss an appearance in Ohio. The President is remaining in Washington so he can monitor the storm_s progress. He visited FEMA and promised Americans that the agency would respond big and respond fast in the wake of any serious damage. Many analysts are warning that in a worst-case scenario, some people might be unable to reach polling stations on Election Day. That_s all for now Kat, back to you.Thanks for those updates Eila. Speaking of the election, with just a week to go it_s still anybody_s race In the battleground state of Ohio, a CNNORC International survey has Obama with a 4-point lead over Romney. But another poll from the Ohio Newspaper Association has the candidates tied at 49-percent. That state_s 18 electoral votes could very well be the difference that swings the election one way or the other. The Romney camp is optimistic about their chances, noting that they have momentum on their side. We_ll be right back.
