The widow_s name - Joe discovered - was Rachel. Some online research provided him with her address. In addition, he saw a picture of her. She was a most beautiful and elegant-looking lady. Presently, with a devious plan in place, Joe called upon Rachel. He affected a kindly and considerate manner while telling her that he was an employee of the Rent-a-husband company - sent by his bosses to offer her some assistance. Rent-a-Husband, Joe explained, was a service that helped bereaved women to cope with the loss of their husbands. Its service provided men who would serve as a woman_s public escort and take care of all her maintenance jobs around the home. The arrangement was purely platonic. When she heard all that, Rachel felt as if she were being rescued by a knight in shining armor. She had no inkling at all of the horrible con that Joe was pulling on her. She invited him into her kitchen for coffee and to discuss the matter further. Shortly after she had signed a phony company contract that he had made up, Joe left Rachel and promised to be on call for her from now on. Rachel smiled gratefully at him as he went. Already Joe_s charm offensive had succeeded. Over the next few days and weeks, Joe played out his part for Rachel. He made himself available to help her at any time. He changed the oil in her car, fixed her plumbing, her vents, her lights, and a dozen other things. Many a time Rachel was there to watch. Sometimes her curiosity led her to get into some interesting positions. Bending over to look at Joe working under her sink, she unknowingly made quite a picture. It was then, slightly under the influence of the scotch, that Joe chose to act. He followed Rachel into her room and confronted her. Gone was the nice-guy act. In a low, menacing voice he ordered the widow to transfer a large sum of money to his account.
